About
Laurent Bavay holds the Chair of Egyptian Archaeology at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) since 2008. His current research focusses on the archaeology of the Theban necropolis, as director of the joint ULB and Université de Liège (ULg) mission in the 18th dynasty tombs of Sennefer (TT 96), Amenemope (TT 29) and Amenhotep (TT C.3) in Sheikh Abd el-Qurna.
Beside this interest in Ancient Egypt, he is also actively involved in the research conducted on the Celtic oppidum of Bibracte, in France (Burgundy). On behalf of the Centre archéologique européen BIBRACTE, he is co-directing with Prof. Daniele Vitali (Université de Bourgogne, Dijon) the excavation of a 1st cent. BC urban settlement in the central part of the oppidum.
Laurent Bavay is currently (2009-2012) the director of the CReA-Patrimoine, a leading research centre of the Université libre de Bruxelles promoting national and international programs on archaeology and cultural heritage (http://crea.ulb.ac.be).
